MYSL Update - November 6, 2010
Coaches,
~Tenderloin Children's Playground Needs Volunteer Soccer Coach
We have a dozen boys ages 5 to 12 yrs., Latin and Middle-Eastern immigrants, who were developing soccer skills from a volunteer.
The volunteer met with the boys Tues. and Thurs. from 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Sat. 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Basically the kids love to run, kick and play soccer.
Since the volunteer left those boys have nothing else to peak their interest; they really identified with the sport of Soccer.
Please spread the word to those who might be interested in volunteering. We are a Children's Only facility with a large hard surface for running on, no grass. We have the space, soccer balls, kids and goals. The only official work fort the volunteer would be to get finger printed by our department, which is free for charge. If the volunteer does this they can volunteer at any SF Rec & Park facility no just ours.
Please contact Jose Guzman if you are interested or want more information.
~End of Daylight Savings and Practice Times
This is for teams that practice where there are no lights...
To Teams Practicing After School:
As many of you know, our tradition is that teams practice in a designated times of either 3:30 to 5 or 5 to 6:30 for older teams or 3:30 to 4:30, 4:30 to 5:30 and 5:30 to 6:30. With the end of daylight savings, the 5 to 6:30 and 5:30 to 6:30 practice times become largely unusuable except on our handful of fields with lights (we wish we had more).
Normally most seasons are winding down by this time but with the unusual rain – seasons have been extended.
In order to be fair to everyone, we are asking the all teams work together during November to make this fit. This means that all of the teams will need to share the space equally. Teams with practice start times of 5 or 5:30 can start earlier and other teams need to share. Please bring this email with you and let us know if there are any issues.
With the Polo fields being closed this will be even more challenging as we are more crowded together than usual.
Please work together and cooperate. We don’t want to turn teams away because we don’t have enough practice spaces so we all need to work together.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

~Vikings
The season continues to progress with very few issues, except rain. At least things look good for tomorrow. Teams are behaving, reporting scores, and cleaning up after themselves. Thanks and keep it up!!
Playoffs (U10+). We completed our first playoff week for the U10+ teams and things went quite smoothly, except for the rain. We can control a lot of things, but not the weather. Luckily, we have more turf fields than in the past. We have posted revised playoff schedules, including games on 11/20. We suggest you download a fresh schedule, read the special rules, bring a copy of the rules with you to your game (including the shootout rules if relevant) and discuss them briefly with the referee before the start of the game. If you wait until the moment of confusion, it is too late. In all cases, however, the referee’s decision is final. Also please help the referee keep the games on time and report your scores as quickly as possible. We regret that cannot make any schedule accommodations (expect for SSATs for U14 teams, but those games are all after 1 pm right now).
U8/U9. This is the first season in a while that we have had rainouts two weeks in a row (much less two in a season). Our policy is not to reschedule games for the U8/U9 age group. Having said that, we want kids to play soccer. That is why we spend all this volunteer time. We are trying to find a good logistic solution. Please hang in there and be patient.
Spring Soccer. We have been receiving calls about spring soccer registration from some of our younger teams. The spring season is run by SFPAL. We only run the Fall season. Please check http://www.sfpal.org/soccer for more information. Registration usually begins in January. We will send out more info when we receive it.
Hot line. If there is an issue on the field, we have established a hot line manned by one of our officers. We will try to help. Please call: 415-279-0820.
